TIMBER FRAMING & LOG BUILDING
Big Wood, Small Details
Developed as a response to over industrialized post-war building practices, the Timber-Frame and Log Building Revival was rediscovered in the 1970s by those who longed for a simpler, more natural home. These practices incapsulate the culture and history of building, from Teepees to European cathedrals. For over 40 years I have been in reverence of these traditional methods, and they have been a focal point of my learning. Having taken courses all over North America in Timber, Cobb and Straw-bale construction, we seek to pay homage to this lineage by adapting these ancient practices for the modern home.

It's the Little Things
There is often some competition between the aesthetic, structural and climatic requirements of a building. We seek to to find the ideal balance by designing buildings and assemblies that address these challenges prior to construction. By focusing on the smallest details we are better able to foresee issues, provide solutions, and communicate the construction process to all the parties involved. Our goal is always to create a building that functions as well as it looks.
SMALL BUILDINGS
Less Can Be More
The history of small dwellings is a long one. From the first huts to the modern tiny home, some have gravitated towards these more efficient, cost-effective structures. We have striven to take our experience from the construction of large homes and scale these details to bring the same value in a smaller package. Whether you dream of a weekend cabin, a studio for your passion or a carriage house to support your lifestyle, building something smaller doesn't mean you have to get less. Over the past decade, we've focused on refining our approach to both designing and constructing these compact buildings, and they are some of our favourites. Enough of everything, but nothing more.
