Project management

Coordinating budgets, vision and perspectives

At each step, project management is the interface of foreseeing and addressing problems and potentials. With a deep understanding and care for the many facets of homebuilding, we take pride in curating the knowledge and experience of a diverse trades network.

With an appreciation for both client and sub-trade perspectives, we seek to bring together the needs and wants of all parties to create a more harmonious building process.

We rely on long standing relationships with architects, designers and engineers, with building officials, and with our suppliers, sub trades and craftspeople, to complete multi-faceted projects.

From these relationships through construction, integrity is the foundation of our work.

Custom homes

From foundation to finish

A home is made up of hundreds of details and choices, many of which present themselves as the building comes to life. We are on site from the beginning to help you navigate them. The construction process is a constant chance to uncover cost-effective, aesthetic and structural opportunities to continue tailoring your house to your needs. After all, a plan can only take you so far.

At Yates Construction we bring attention and care to the process of looking for improvement at each step. We take great pride in building homes that look as great as they perform.

This is where form and function meet.

Renovation & restoration

Time-tested solutions

As both a profession and passion, our love of historical buildings leads us in our search to identify time-tested solutions.

Having worked with a variety of homes spanning pre-war to coast modern and everything in between, our experience allows us to fulfill your home's potential, no matter when it was built and what you want it to be.

We offer services ranging from full structural and aesthetic updates to lifting and levelling.

Timber framing & log building

Big wood, small details

Developed as a response to over-industrialized post-war building practices, the Timber-Frame and Log Building Revival was rediscovered in the 1970s by those who longed for a simpler, more natural home. These practices encapsulate the culture and history of building, from Teepees to European cathedrals. We have held these traditional methods in reverence for four decades, and they have been a focal point of our learning. Having taken courses all over North America in Timber, Cob and Straw-bale construction, we seek to pay homage to this lineage by adapting these ancient practices for the modern home.

Construction design & detailing

It's the little things

There is often some competition between the aesthetic, structural and climatic requirements of a building. We seek to find the ideal balance by designing buildings and assemblies that address these challenges prior to construction. By focusing on the smallest details we are better able to foresee issues, provide solutions, and communicate the construction process to all the parties involved. Our goal is always to create a building that functions as well as it looks.

Small buildings

Less can be more

The history of small dwellings is a long one. From the first huts to the modern tiny home, people have gravitated towards these more efficient, cost-effective structures. We take our experience from building large homes and scale those details down, so a smaller package carries the same value. Whether you dream of a weekend cabin, a studio for your passion or a carriage house to support your lifestyle, building something smaller doesn't mean settling for less. Over the past decade we have refined our approach to designing and constructing these compact buildings, and they are some of our favourites. Enough of everything, but nothing more.

We offer both site-built and pre-fabricated structures to suit your specific needs.
